Diy Wedding Dress

My daughter is making her own wedding dress. The under layer is ivory crystal satin with 4 layers of ivory tuile over it. Trouble is she has a hooped petticoat to go underneath and you can quite clearly make out the outlines of the hoops. We can't think how to overcome this. Any ideas from you experts out there please? p.s. She's fairly new to dressmaking and I'm not that experienced either!

You mean you can see the hoops sticking through the 5 layers of material?

You need to have a layer between the hoops and the dressy fabric. In victorian days this would be a quilted fabric to soften the outline of the hoops - in fact 'crinoline' means this fabric rather than the hoops.

No, the hoops don't actually stick out.
Sounds like the thicker fabric may be the answer as long as it isn't too hot as the wedding is mid-July. Perhaps a heavyish cotton might work.

Sorry Coccinelle. Yes the hoops show very prominently through 5 layers of fabric but the tuile is very fine.

I agree with Mosaic, you need a layer to smooth out the lines, a light quilted underskirt would do it, ask at a fabric shop for advice.

Re weight and heat, it will only be for a short time, she can remove the hoops etc for dancing later.

Do you actually need the hooped petticoat - loose and floaty seems to be all the rage these days so could you just forget the petticoat?
