for the 1st time in my new house i thought i'd try my rads, however none of them have heated up???

It might be best to consult a heating engineer, but in the meantime:

Can you hear the sound of the pump working, if it is, it could be that the radiators need bleeding. If the pump isn't working, it might be because it's either switched off or the mother board's packed up. The latter happened to us. Good luck.

Is your hot water working?  On my boiler you have to switch the knob to winter (hot water and radiators) as opposed to summer (hot water only)

A simple thing to try is bleeding them. If your pipework is getting warm but your radiators aren't, then they maybe full of air. You can buy a bleed key for about 50p from any DIY place. worth a try

thanks for the answers, ive found out all the pipes are cold, so shall i skip the bleeding, does this mean something else? and mw hot water does work, too well in fact as it is boiling hot..

It may be that your thermostat has been turned low for the summer and is preventing the pump from engaging or, as has been said, the control panel is not switched to CH and has been left on HW only. Try this before all else.

If the thermostat and panel are set correctly you should then check that the pump is turning. If you know where it is check for a slight vibration and a level of sound.

If the previous points are ok then you have an air lock or a blockage and need further advice or a plumber.

Try undoing the brass slotted cover on the pump and turning the slotted spindle clockwise it might be just the pump stuck.

thanks to everyone for their advice.it goes to show how little i know. for 1 its not a combi but a conventional boiler and secondly when the gas man arrived today he turned up the thermometer on my hall wall from zero to 20. DOH!! i always wondered what that was..
