... did I ever tell you about my holiday job at the sewage farm (no really - I did have one when I was a student)?
I used to hate Monday mornings ... the whole population of Aylesbury seemed to have spent the whole weekend doing bedroom gymnastics and (quite rightly) being 'safe' whilst doing it.
You know those rotating sprinkler thingies that you see at the sewage plants? Well my Monday morning job was unblocking all the sprinkler holes that were obstructed by the products of the London Rubber Company ... boy did I deserve a cup of tea and a bacon buttie after that.
Working in a pet shop. The stink was awful, especially on a Monday morning. I ended up getting the sack for getting caught with my hands in the trill..
We used to have to steam clean the sewage tanks on the old navy ships before the modern recycling versions they have now.
It was ok for the first few minutes but once the steam started to lift the crap from the walls and the smell kicked in it was awful, proper gagging attacks!
The money was good but you had to have the stomach for it
Blackcurrant picking - summer job. Never known anything so repetitive and boring plus when I closed my eyes in bed at night all I could see was blackcurrants.
Mine was as assistant to a children's entertainer......I lasted one day. When I got home I was lying on the floor, laughing and crying at the same time. It's the only time in my life I have been truly hysterical...
The chap who foolishly employed me nearly died when he swallowed his swazzle and we had to get medical help....
It's the one time I needed to give the kiss of life....and had he not been a 40 a day smoker and wearing plaid carpet slippers I might have considered it....☻
My worst job ever? Taxi driver, the most boring, poorly paid and having to deal with obnoxious drunks, rude smart assed people in all hours of the day and night. Never again!!!
First summer holiday job was at a bakery.
I had a pointy stick too, I put the holes in the top of the pork pies going along on the conveyor belt.
The motion of the belt made me feel nauseous, and as if I was moving the opposite way myself.
So I got a promotion, they let me put the jam in the jam doughnuts.
A student job I had in the summer holidays was making plastic bags. I pulled two sheets of plastic towards me,pressed a treadle to activate the heat bar and placed the resulting bag in a pile. Every 20 bags were then put in a box...............deadly boring.
Best student job was the Christmas post wearing a Post Office arm band. Loads of tips.
