here's some advice, google on "how to prune hydrangeas" for more, its all very similar
I agree with woofgang (not sure I dare disagree ;-) )
I always make pruning my hydrangea one of the first jobs in very early spring. I take out all spindly, very old or unwanted stems completely & prune the rest back to the first pair of healthy buds. A dollop of general shrub food now & then if it's lucky & it flowers beautifully. At the moment one of the mopheads is 10" in diameter!
I have a lovely hydgranger but it is getting rather overgrown. There have been lots of flowers and many 'new shoots' - just leaves without flowers.
I need to prune the hydranger in order to reduce its size but also ensure flowering again next year but do not know how to do this. Can anyone help please?
Also the soil is clay and the flowers are white - can I encourage pink or blue flowers in the future...as you can tell I am a novice gardener, but do like to see everything looking good in the garden. Thanks for your help
