I guess as you include 'clear plastic' you're looking for something to go in front of the poster, if so
Polystyrene sheet ^^^ would not be a good idea.

You can get clear polystyrene sheets, Baldric. I did think the same when I read the answer though.

Perhaps Baldric is thinking of Expanded polystyrene - the white stuff used for packing.
