Was sat near patio doors day before yesterday watching this ginormous rat going up and down my decking collecting bits of food the kids had dropped. This was going on most of the afternoon in daylight. I decided to set a trap, and bingo, last night there was the big man, caught, he released himself, and died a foot away from the trap. Verdict: bled to death after misadventure. I shoved him into a cereal box and chucked him into the bin.

Now the problem is my decking looks like a murder scene, i have put a white tent on the area and taped the garden with 'police crime scene written across the tape' blood all over, which will not clean off. Forensics have been and gone.

{Lol just joking about the last bit, don't get worried}

Am i cruel?

No. Better to be dispatched quickly than suffer the lingering death that comes with poisoning.

Never go camping in the countryside phleb!
Every time you see a rural murder scene on the News
the body is always in a Tent!!
Did you put him in the food recycle bin?

lol at prudie.....x
They eat them in Belgium - there's a restaurants that specialises in rat dishes between Antwerp and Bruges.
During the siege of Derry they were selling for as much as 6p. And that was a lot of money back then.
Sure you didn't mean radishes DT?
Was the rat called Roland?
Very interesting! We lay in wait for one in our garden once and my husband shot him. At least he went quickly (he was a good shot). Later on, when I no longer had my husband to help me I went to the vermin exterminators (or rat-catchers if you prefer) and they put down poison. I was told not to leave piles of things in the garden for them to lurk behind. Must admit I felt a certain amount of guilt.
DTC, I think I went into one of those restaurants in Bruges! Why doesn't Trip Advisor have negative scores and health warnings?
And one just to the north of Bruxelles in Vilvoorde. The main speciality here is steak de cheval (not steak à cheval - that's beef steak with an egg, the difference catching many out) but also there are some delicacies on the menu as mentioned in this article.

Is there only me feels sorry for it ??
The Chinese eat it too - saw them in a water restaurant int Guangzhou - manage to steer my host away from them but had to settle on a compromise, - hedgehog - served as a soup - slightly peppery and one could joke a sharp taste.
The rat population of the UK is estimated to be >70 million, that's one for each of us and two for the UKIP supporters or immigrant groups. You are withn 6 feet of a rat statistically apparently. So phleb, go for it and take a few more out.
I feel sorry for it too, having to presumably gnaw part of your anatomy off to free yourself from a trap then bleed to death isn't the nicest way to go. Moral of the story Phleb is not to leave food lying around then you won't encourage rats and you won't have to murder them.

Ratty you are biased hence the name lol. kids eat crisps etc in garden and drop a crisp or two....understandably rats and mice will try and take what they can, but why do they enter my bathroom and eat my floor? silly dirty rats!! One down, several to go...i have set up near the neighbor's rabbit hutch, that's where they come from and not to mention the other silly twit two doors away with her chicken coop...they are attracting the rats. I will now have to play dirty just like they do!
