Overflowing Overflow

I have an overflowing overflow coming from what I beleive is my header tank But Im not 100% sure!

It overflows at exactly the same time every morning 0530hrs!

My heating and water is set to come on at 0600Hrs it only stops overflowing when I run the hot tap for a short while...


any thoughts or advice before i perilously venture into my loft?

Sounds as if your ballcock may need adjustment - a bit of fluff, or limescale, may be holding the valve open.

My guess is that you need to change the BallCock in Header Tank as it's faulty.
The Builder may be able to give better advice when he comes on....

'Tis yer ballvalve Mr Inc. If it runs continuously, then it probably has dirt in it, or it needs replacing.

Since it only happens at 5:30 am, then it's more likely to be the float level is set too high. All mains water pressures rise overnight because few people are using them. Turning on a hot tap simply drains some of the excess.

Grab the arm with one hand to steady it, then bend the lever down a little. That will turn the float downwards so that it cuts out at a lower level.

A bit of trial and error will get it right.

Is it coming from the header tank or the expansion tank,? I think thats the first thing to establish. If it is the header tank then its probably a ballcock problem . If its the expansion tank then its probably a problem with the coper cylinder or the central heating pump turned up too high.
