dishwasher salt V table salt

i have some items to dye with dylon and it says add dye to 500kg of salt.  can i use dishwasher salt.

Doubt it..they're different crystalisations or something and different chemicals. put it this way..would you sprinkle dishwasher salt over your dinner??

Dishwasher salt is fine for this purpose.  It may not be as refined as table salt but it is still sodium chloride.  To back this up I have found the following quote on another forum where someone had actually used it "Dishwasher salt is cheap and works well, make sure you dissolve it first in hot water though."

I agree with Loosehead - that is a heck of a lot of salt to use - a cup full would seem more reasonable - unless you are talking industrial vats.

Good question , I need to know myself.
I'm only going to use 500g though. 500Kg wouldn't allow any space for water or my jeans.

I emailed Dylon and yes you can use dishwasher salt.
However, it works out more expensive than table salt if you use the shopping price comparison sites. So use table salt.
Tip
After you've dyed your item and cleaned the machine with an empty wash cycle (I added a cup of bleach in this cycle) check in the fold of the door rubber for left over dye, my washer still had dye lurking there, a quick wipe with a bleached cloth and a rinse cycle sorted it out. I guess you could check the door rubber for dye after you've removed your dyed item then you wouldn't need the extra rinse cycle that Iused.
