Thanks to all who answered my previous query on buying new sofas. We have bought them and they are to be delivered next week! The problem is - getting rid of the two sofas we have! The council say they will pick them up to dispose of but I was wondering if there were any organisations who would welcome them as they are in ok condition. Unfortunately they would have to pick them up too, we are in the northwest, any ideas ABers?? Thanks in advance!!
Have you thought about contacting the Salvation Army? They often need good quality 'pre-owned' furniture for various clients. Ditto your local Council, possibly Social Services. We have an organisation called Track 2000 in Cardiff who accept various items which are refurbished as necessary and either sold, very cheaply, or given to people leaving care / long term hospitals, etc. etc.
Try www.freecycle.org - a website for people to donate no longer needed belongings to people who will give them a new home. Navigate to the international section, and then to the UK section, you'll see there are many little regional 'subgroups', this is so items can be picked up and dropped off close to home. Someone there may want it and be willing to pick it up. Don't know how quickly you might get rid of it though.
There is a paper called bargain pages on tuesdays & fridays although i'm not sure how widely available it is that you can advertise items as free to collecter.
