I have been quoted ridiculous prices for stain proofing a sofa and two armchairs, but I have read that it can be a DIY job. Has anyone ever done this at home? What product would you recommend and have you any advice?
Thanks a lot.

I should add that I applied a Scotchgard (sp) product to the car upholstery when it was new about a year ago. Easy to apply but you need plenty of ventilation. Quite cheap...look on Ebay for a good selection. Scotchgard is probably the one to go for.

The only thing you don't get by doing it yourself is any kind of guarantee. Most of the places who offer this kind of service also offer some kind of "if we can't get the stain off we replace" guarantee.
...the type of guarantee where the terms and conditions make it easy for the providers to wriggle out of!
