Before the colder weather sets in we're going to have to sort out the system. The thermostat seems to have died on us.. the heating comes on and we sweat then turn it off.

How do we sort out the thermostat?  It's set in the living room, and turned to minimum, it comes on early morning till the temp wakes me up and I run downstairs and hit the timer..that's makes us ok till the next morning.

Hubby is quite handy, but money is at a premium

is it your thermostat? I say this because it could be your diverter valve not shutting the central heating off properly and feeding from your domestic hot water supply.

Turn off heating and have your hot water switched on and go round your radiators and see if you can feel any heat even at the pipe connections.

Hope this helps.
