I want to refresh a horse hair stuffed sofa but am struggling to find a source for modest amounts of horse hair.

Can anyone recommend a supplier for the hobbyist rather than a full blown upholsterer?

I have tried three local upholsterers and they have been less than helpful; understandably perhaps.

If you're not bothered about sticking with the authentic original materials used for the piece, ie it's not a precious antique, then use furniture foam and a layer of polyester batting between the foam and the covering fabric. Upholstery suppliers will sell this - I use one near here, Roberts & Sumner, but not much use if you don't live in lancashire.
Here's what I use for lime plastering in the old style, Eccles..........

There may be someone near you, but I guess they'll mail order though.

Thank you both. I do want to stick to the traditional filling and hadn't thought about a traditional builders merchant......well why would I????

I'll have a look to see who is in my area.
