Bio Disc, Cost Of Installation
4 Answers
Hi. I am currently looking at buying a property (2 bed end terrace, in a block of 3 houses) with a septic tank, although the survey has come back stating that it may not be a septic tank and might instead be a cesspool. If this is the case the surveyor has advised that a 'bio disc' may be the way forward. Does anyone have experience of this type of equipment. What is the cost of installation, the cost of running and the pros and cons. Thanks for your help in advance

Installation requires digging a huge hole in which to bury the unit. Can you get access to the rear garden for both a mid-sized excavator plus lorry to remove the spoil? This alone will be a key factor in driving the cost.
Are you really sure that no-one else nearby is not on main drainage that you can tap into?

I used to run a restaurant & hotel business and we had a septic tank. This tank was also shared with another fast food restaurant. An alarm would sound in both of our buildings when the tank was about a quarter full then half full and then at three quarters full the alarm would sound continually until the level inside was reduced. As we were summer businesses the tank was probably emptied twice a year never had any problems with it.
