Two retired people, a shower each every day, never clean the car (the rain does that), small courtyard garden watered by me with a watering can, one to two washing machine washes a week, how can we get our bill of £58.00 a month down.
We were paying this before the council insisted we had to have a water meter.
How can we be paying £700.00 a year!!

Do a leakage check.
It sounds to me as if your bill should be less than half that
That does seem a lot of money, jenny. Perhaps it's the showers? Have you got a power shower?
How long ago was it installed? Has the meter been read or is it an estimated charge?
Have you checked your own water meter readings? And, also check there is no leak at the connection of the meter to your water pipe! Took me over a year and 3 visits by the Water Company to accept the leak, for which I was paying, was on their side of my meter! So do check.
we're a retired couple with a large garden and only pay £18 a month!
Jenny what steps have you taken since you posted about this in February?
Ring you water company and ask them to send you information about how to do a leak test.
For a comparison. Two working people, bath every night (same water but top it up) don't wash the car the Eastern Europeans do that, Small courtyard garden that is watered from water butt, 2 or 3 loads of washing a week, wash dishes once a day. Have a water meter £22 per month on direct debit.
Your very similar thread from February indicated you have already done a test of the meter and found it was going round even when there was no water being used.
I shower at least once a day, run the dishwasher at least once a day, ditto washing machine, water the garden (large) when it needs it and pay 30 quid a month. Deffo leakage check.
You must have a leak - we're also retired, both shower every day, dishwasher on every day, washing machine 3-4 times per week, occasional garden watering. £20 per month maximum.
seems way too much to me,I live alone mostly, husband is working away but here weekends, I run dishwasher most days, shower every day, and use the washing machine at least 4 times a week, I also hose the garden plants in warm weather, we pay about £210 - £250 a year, get a leakage check!....My daughter emigrated to Aus two years ago, the house was empty for 2 months, the water bill was over £150 and there were no leaks inside the house!....
so what did you do, jenny, after you thought you had a leak earlier this year? The water company need to come back, if the leak is on your side you'll have to get it fixed. We use the washing machine three times a week and water the garden when needed, our incoming water bill has just gone up to £10 a month. Something's very wrong somewhere.
... and PS even a small leak uses a heck of a lot of water. We had a leak before the water meter went in (part of the reason why we took it) - we were losing loads of water into next door's property, and not even realising it....
The water board in our area found that the leak was on my daughters side of the meter, which meant that she should foot the bill to fix it, but in fairness to them, they fixed it without charge, it took lots of phone calls and arguing, but they did fix it for free!...........
if your bill is "£58 " per month then its estimated it will never be the same cost twice if your sending in your readings on line
its up to you to do this
We have 4 people living in our house showers every day and all the usual stuff including watering garden. Since having water meter fitted out bills have roughly halved.

Thanks to all. Will try and get it sorted.
I only pay £15.70 a month. I think you may well have a leak. You're definitely paying waaayyy too much. Have it checked out. £58 a month is ridiculous.
