You can buy bags of dowels at any hardware store - are you sure it has to be mahogany? Surely it will not be seen if it is a dowel? You could always stain a more common softwood one.

It HAS to be a Hardwood. Preferably Mahogany. It is a feature and structural too. And you can't buy bags of HARDWOOD dowel in hardware stores. Any one else know the answer to my "actual" question?
