Timer For On/off Light Switch

I have just sent away for a digital on/off light switch timer as I have been using the "segment " type up yo now. However I have just been reading more details about the product from the seller and it states "not suitable for fluorescent or low enrgy bulbs?--Have I wasted my money (I've had no problems with the timer that I am using at present {with low energy bulbs}

I know that most dimmer switches won't dim low energy bulbs; but I've never heard of a problem with timers ...... although I may be proved wrong ..... we shall see :)
I take it you're on about one that you plug into a plug socket and you then plug your device into the timer unit ??

Just guessing, Kenny, but I imagine it's the same problem that you often get with dimmers and low consumption lamps.

A mechanical timer just switches on or off regardless of load. Digital, and dimmers need a certain load on them to work at all.

For dimmers, there are ballast resistors available to simulate a higher load. Maybe one of these would help.

Many thanks to you both---I'll use the new timer at a socket that I have two lamps connected (one low energy/one old type) and hope there is enough demand from the two.

We use digital timers on a couple of lamps which use low energy bulbs with no problems, been using them for a few years.

I have those vile low energy bulbs and I'm told I cannot use timer switches with them. Grrr ! VERY annoying.

All I can say Janbee is that mine are working fine!!!
