I saw something in the newspaper about how you can clean an oven using half a grapefruit dipped in salt. Has anyone ever tried this? After all, if it was that effective I would have heard of this before.
It would be great if it was then I wouldn`t have to do it. I usually end up leaving it until it gets quite bad and then pay someone to do it but I should start maintaining their work rather than forking out £60 for the professionals.
I even tried that Oven Pride and that didn`t clean the grill pans. It did leave nice stains over the wood flooring when I dripped it on the floor though. Took the colour right out.
i put the racks in the dishwasher longest wash then with minimal effort wipe the burnt bits off then i use astonish cleaner (cream )for the oven (brings the glass up like new ).if theres burt bits on oven bottom i use an old knife to scrape it .
The grapefruit/salt thing works for cleaning a bathtub. We've used it and it does work.
The 'natural' way to clean ones oven uses baking soda sprinkled thoroughly (a slightly warm oven works best) followed by a liberal spray of white vinegar. Let it set for a few minutes followed by a swipe throughout with the abrasive pad of your choice… wipe clean with a wet paper towel...
What's an oven? A Domestic Goddess I ain't !
I know that lemons clean everything up to be all twinkly and sparkly so maybe it's the same with any citrus fruit?
Forgive my previous flippancy, try 'Oven Mate' from Lakeland Ltd. Just paint it on, leave it for hours then rinse it off. Also cleans the glass on wood-burning stoves. Comes with latex gloves and a brush!
