IT may or may not be the cat litter. I say this because cats are prone to, what is commonly known as UTI's, or better known as urinary tract infections. You may want to ask your vetrinarian about a food supplement for your cat to decrease the possibility of a UTI. A strong amonia odor is the first and formost symptom of UTI in animals and humans. Does your cat drink lots of water? I mean ten and fifteen minutes apart the cat is running back to the water bowl. Does your cat constantly attempt to use the litter box but instead he only dribbles urine? You will have to watch the cat very closely for these symptoms and report your findings to your Vet. It may correct itself as nature does. But, it may kill your cat. Meantime, your poor cat is in excruciating pain in any case.
