Remember them? A little table specifically for your telephone, usually with space underneath for the massive phone books, a drawer for your personal telephone book and often with a padded seat built in so you could sit in your draughty hall in comfort to use the phone. Often in mahogany (or mahogany effect) with squirly wood trims.

My mother always wanted one but never got one.

Ahem, yes I have a telephone table in the hall just as you describe, it's solid oak and very beautiful - we don't sit on it, the phone is cordless and gets taken elsewhere.

lol hc .... I think most people had them in the 70s? In the draughty hall as you say .. ;0)
My grandparents had one. They also had a personal phone book that you used to have to dial the letter for it to pop open. I think it might have been a present :-)
Yes. We had one in the 80's minus, seat.
We also had a money box .... for the neighbour who used to come in & use it occasionally ... subtle hint lol!!
We built one in the first house we bought, Hc.....a sort of low brick bench, part teak top for the trim phone and part a padded seat....space for the phone book underneath.....
My but we thought we were posh!
No they didn't have one in the phone box I used! Red one smelt of wee.
Ours was in the living room. We lived in a pub so the upstairs lay out wasn't conventional.
Sometimes they crop up at car boot sales ... may be they're 'retro' now?

my neighbour has one
We used to have one in my mums old house.
Was great , but got chilly in the hallway if you chatted too long.
no landline phone, so no :-)

graeme, is your neighbour elderly with the old fashioned dial telephone?

Never had one, we had a windowsill instead!
I used to be fascinated by how the telephone/telegraph wires seemed to move up and down when you were travelling by train.

Was that in the front room so the neighbours could you swanking on your telephone, Baldric?

But of course!

I remember my neighbour doing that for weeks, she was always yakking on the phone when I went past, waving out. Then another neighbour had an emergency so asked to use her phone - turns out she was still waiting for it to be connected. :D

And of course it was a Trimphone at the earliest opportunity.
lol hc! Sounds like something Mrs Brown would do. Our telephone table at mums wasn't as posh as the one you described. Ours was one of those half moon glass/ metal things! :0/
