THE STORY

I want to get some work done to my flat. However I have two kitties who are not pleased when humans invade their territory and are most unfriendly.

I also know that workmen do not understand that an open from door is a serious temptation to a moggie - nor do they understand the concept of closing a door behind them.

None of the doors fit so I am unable to lock them in one room. My office is where they are currently snoozing and would be an ideal place for us to hide from the workmen.

QUESTION - There is no door to this room. I need a child-gate or pet-gate or something that they will not be able to scale. It has to be adjustable as to the width and as high as possible. It also must be so simple to install/fix that it could be done by an idiot (me).

Now I will have to decide whether to get a new bathroom or a new bedroom.

A cage?
If your cats are anything like ours a gate isn't going to stop them - one of ours recently tried to get out by climbing the chimney! I think a cage might be your best bet Maggie, as no matter what if they want out they will find a way. I have banned all showings of the Great Escape at Nungate Towers in case it gives them ideas. Good luck with the building work. Just a thought how about a locksmith to fix one of your doors?
Sorry Wolf, am having a bad day. I called you Maggie, only excuse is no have a stinker of a cold and have been away from answerbank too long!

Psybbo - The cage would work if they liked each other - it would not be ideal. There would be blood. Typical siblings.

Tony - I forgot about Ebay and I will have a look see in the morning.

I a have an archway between the livingroom and the kitchen - my ambition is to get some sort of gate/door for that, but it is about ten foot wide.

Putting them in a cattery would be the best solution but they are not inoculated and due to a regular steroid injection for his asthma Frankie can't really get his inoculations. (He can get them but it would be very problematic).
Excuse me please, wolf, I just want to say hello to nungate and please pass my regards to Queenie, I hope all is well, xx

nungate - I answer to wolf, fatso or Susan.

I wondered if they would be able to scale the gate. I will ponder and think about it.

I have placed the sofa in front of the fireplace to prevent an inquisitive moron from trying to get up it. They have never been outside so if they got out they would be terrified.

I will let you natter away. I am off to play games on my Kindle, just like every other 50 year old female. :-D
You could always get two cages, wolf. Keep them separated !.

Hiya nungate, are you all moved in now ?.
Don't they get in behind the sofa? We've blocked it off using a board and weigh boxes of beds!
Thanks for allowing me the name thing, lots of stress lately - moved house, the moggies haven't seen a proper chimney before - maybe he was looking for Santa!
Another passing thought, when we introduced a kitten to our "pack" if I had to leave the kitten in alone in a room with one of the other cats I used to pop him into one of the travel boxes, alright for a short time I suppose, maybe not for the duration of the builders day
Hi, Wolf....had the same temporary problem once.....I used a high board but one of the monsters scaled it so.....

I put two big hooks in the top of the door frame....hung garden trellis...the fairly hefty sort.....and I had a chunk of wood at the bottom so they couldn't squeeze through.

Bit of an eyesore but it kept them out of trouble......x

Frankie goes to the vet every four weeks. As I don't work (except Monday pm in Oxfam) he know that me getting up and having a shower means that I am going out. Not wanting to take a chance that it could be a trip to the vet. He used to hide under my bed.

The bed now has lino tiles stuck to the sides and suitcases etc under it. I am nearly certain that I have won this battle.
