Fridge Temperature

I got a new Fr/Freezer on 7th Dec 2014. I have two q's
1) The F/F temperature control is in the fridge part. It is set at 'Min', but still reads as 2dg below freezing in the fridge part. What else could I do to get it to 'normal' fridge temp?
2) It keeps making a strange sound. Best description of sound is ' a gentle fart in the bath'. It does this repeatedly at approx. 30 second intervals, but not constantly. ie it has 'sessions'. Why?
I would greatly appreciate any help with these q's.

Have you tried turning the temp control the other way? "Min" could mean the minimum temp it's possible to get! What's the temp in the freezer bit?

Freezer temp is -16C, but there isn't a control for the freezer.

You don't say whether it's a 'side-by-side' or over-under... but regardless... there's only one source of cold air and that is first routed through the freezer section from the compressor.

Most likely, the thermostat you are setting not only regulates the amount of cold air in the freezer but opens a small 'door' between the freezer side and the fridge allowing cold air to enter. The small door is electronically controlled and opens and closes in response to 'cold' demand on the fridge side.

The noise you are heraing sounds like the new unit may have the capability of producing ice cubes. The sound may be the cycle the ice cube maker goes through even though you or the people who installed it for you didn't hook it up, which is often the case since they don't want to go to the trouble of routing a small water line to the firdge unless the owner specifically tells them to.

Or... your fridge may be an automatic defrost model and it's going through that cycle.
The cycle starts with the de-ice plate (in the freezer side, behind a panel) turning on for a short time. This plate actually heats up to melt the ice that's accumulated on it. The melted water from the plate runs donw a channel to the bottom of the freezer and drains into a holding panu underneath the outside of the fridege. Check your owners manual to see if you have this feature.

Additionally, if you do have the auto defrost feature, be sure to drain and clean the drip pan from underneath on a regular basis... it can grown mold and present a disagreeable odor that's hard to locate if you don't know about it...

Just for information the optimum temperature for your freezer is -18c

Thank you Clanad. It is a single unit with the fridge on top of the freezer. It is a Frost Free model, but not specifically designed to produce ice cubes. I am just concerned because the fridge is too cold, and the freezer is not quite cold enough, as BS (thank you) pointed out.

I am measuring it with a thermometer in the middle drawer of the freezer, and on the middle shelf of the fridge.

Thanks Methyl, but I don't really get what difference knowing Min & Max would make. The temps are what they are. There is only a control in the fridge. It is set on Min presently, and the temp in the middle of the fridge is a couple degrees below 0C. The temp in the middle of the freezer is -16C. I wouldn't know how to find out - it's not in the manual. It's only 2 mths old so I will give manufacturers a ring tomorrow I think.

I would suspect that the freezer only has one set temperature and the control is for the fridge only, it wouldn't really be practical for one control to control two temperatures. When we were buying a fridge/freezer I read all the Which reviews and many indicated that a lot of freezers were less than spot on with their temperatures.

Your fridge is far too cold and needs turning up to +4 or +5 degrees.

Turn it towards 'max'. Minimum will be the coldest it can go
