Does moss/weedkiller harm wildlife?

Our lawn is in serious need of help - there are loads of weeds and moss right through it. But we are regularly visited by a family of rabbits and two hedgehogs. Would moss and weed killers harm them? If so, does anyone know how else we can tackle them? (The moss and weeds, that is, not the rabbits a hedgehogs!). I was going to buy a scarifier but read that you still ought to kill the moss first.

The best way to get rid of moss in lawns, is to scarify it with a rake, then patch, as for weeds in lawns, there's plenty of specialised lawn weed killers that don't harm wildlife, its a qestion of reading the instuctions.

those weedkillers that don't harm wildlife are not specific about what would happen to wildlife who ate the treated foliage. I have tortoises, so when I weedkill my path, they are kept in the pen until the weeds have wilted and can be removed. The other option is to buy one of those weed wands that have a flame. You cook the top of the weed which certainly kills it but its a bit laborious over large areas. IMHO no need to kill moss before you rake it out, provided that you remove it from the lawn. If moss is a big problem them you probably need to improve your drainage
