Piped Music

Does anyone know how easy it is to install piped music into your home. Connecting the speakers to the source is easy, was just wondering how u'd control the levels, on/off etc. in each individual room. Is there some sort of controller you can buy?

ours in out house is done by the amp, then you just select which speaker you want on a button on the front. Other that that I'm not technically minded!
