i've recently moved to a house with no heating except a back boiler. With winter looming iwas going to have oil central heating put in but now I'm not so sure. With oil prices the way they are is bottled gas a viable alternative?

Bottled gas is just about the most expensive kind.  It gets cheaper for large (tall) propane bottles, but a permanent refillable tank is much cheaper.  Of course you then have to pay for the tank.............

Oil will still be cheaper, I guess, but do all your sums carefully!
