The house we are buying has gas and electric card meters. We don't want these. Is it easy enough to get the service supplier to remove and replace with a normal meter? Does the existing supplier have to change it, or can I source a new supplier who hopefully will be happy to do this?

Are you a tenant?
Yes these should be straightforward to replace

lots of suppliers so ring around and get the best deal

card meters are quite expensive = dont offer the best deals
she cant be a tenant - she has said she is buying it !

easy change no problem

You should check with the current supplier and repudiate any debt accumulated from the sellers - just as you would if you were renting ( not respomsible for someone elses arrears )

Actually this is quite easy - as it is now YOUR turn to plead the Data Protection Act if they try to discuss someone else s consumption

..... And have a good credit rating ourselves.
No problem, even though I'm a tenant, I found it straightforward getting rid of the prepayment meter.
I was charged £80 to return to billing meter by gas board.
