Our Mysterious Loft

We have lived in Overall Towers for a few years now and as I am terrified of heights AND ladders, I have never been in the loft. Mr O has kept muttering about the amount of stuff up there and today he dragged a box of his own (ornaments his mother gave him over the years which were too hideous for words) and a bin bag of mine down for sorting out.
When I opened the bin bag the first thing I spotted was a handbag I bought for a wedding (it was one of those "ah, that's where it got to" moments). The rest of the bin bag was filled with (6) brand new handbags that I have no recollection of buying and could swear I have never seen before. Two of them are in colours I would never normally wear.
Any suggestions regarding this mystery?
