Deterrent For Snails And Slugs

On my little lupins. Apart from eggshells and grit, what else can I use on the earth?

A piece of copper wire has done job for me but you just have to make sure you do not "trap" them in

They are tiny, just repotted and left indoors by window until they get bigger. They will be going straight into earth in around a months time. Will have to save my eggshells ...

Retrochic, I know, I have used Nematodes in the past when a lot of my shrubs were dying. Before that I had loads of slugs but most have vanished now. That was around four years ago, so they are creeping back, I just want something to scatter around the shrubs at the moment.

Do you have a coal fire? Ash from the fire is good for snails onthe surface but those underground do the most damage -why not go back to the nematoids?

The cafe at Fineshade Woods gives away all their used coffee grounds as a slug deterrent because slugs hate caffeine..... many other cafes do this too.
Mind you, although it isn't against the law to sprinkle coffee grounds around your garden, you can be fined for using the grounds to kill slugs because you are using an unregistered pesticide.....☺..I ask you.....

Now the grounds help my soil and if the silly slugs eat it instead of my hostas.....well that's their fault......though I hate killing things....but I love my hostas more than slugs.....x
