I am having trouble with the birds I feed pulling leaves off my plants.
The Sparrows ,blackbirds, starlings, pigeons and collar doves are pulling leaves off my ranunculus, sweet peas, thyme etc. the blackbird is pulling my creeping thyme to pieces and taking it back to the nest. Has anyone noticed this behaviour ,for I have never seen it before. Hollytree
Stop feeding them, I agree, and get a cat! If not, you will have to resort to things like sophisticated scarecrows. Old CDs on a string dangle and twirl from a branch and they keep the birds off. Netting is the other answer. Me? my cat sleeps all the time, mostly on the lawn, but the birds stay away after feeding time (food dangles from trees).
I think you shouldn't feed birds at all! Maybe in the winter, but somehow not even then! However a cat is no solution, you can't stop them by killing them.. The behavior of your birds is quite strange, but maybe you c cover your plants?
