We need a new boiler and were thinking of getting a combi-boiler. What are anybodys thoughts on these? Also can anyone recommend a good central heating engineer who would fit a new boiler. Thanks.

Can't help with an engineer, Flutter but I'd always go for a combi boiler. I like always having hot water but not heating up a tank I may not use.

But you will get arguments for and against both.
What gness say's.
Good to have instant hot water.
I would also always go with a combi.
The only negative is that if you have to wait longer than a day for an engineer, you have no heat or hot water. We cope though.
I can recommend a fitter but we live in nottinghamshire, any good?
Yes - I have a combi-boiler, which I'm very pleased with. I have a Worcester Bosch as recommended by Which?

If you, or a friend, suscribe to Which?, then you will be able to have access to Which? Local, a database, which means you enter your post code and can see local fitters recommended by Which? members in your area.

what do those of you who have a combi boiler do about an airing cupboard?
Nothing
are you saying that you havent got one?
what about the airing cupboard? It just becomes a cupboard.

i second, third, fourth combi. No airing cupboard
That's right.......it disappeared after the installation of the Combi. Also two water storage tanks disappeared.

If you must have an airer for your laundry you can buy a cheap elect.one,or use an old fashioned clothes line.
I use what was the airing cupboard as a 'storage facility' - I just pile the stuff up on the floor and shut the door.

Thanks for all your replies. I did mention a central heating engineer but silly me never put which area we are. We are in Stockport area if anyone knows of anybody. Thanks.
I have lived in a house with no airing cupboard. Hated it.
My old airing cupboard now has shelves for towels and a hanging rail for the too many clothes I buy......makes me feel less guilty when I open the bedroom wardrobes......x
We have a combi boiler and I've just checked every cupboard in the house.
Delighted to report that they all, without exception, contain air.
As do mine, Douglas....and if you ask if it's hot I'll smack you!.... ;-)
Mrs av keeps the vac where our old tank used to be.
