Do you need planning permission to erect a sundial?

What have you got planned? I suspect it will very much depend upon how large it is, what it is made of and where it is to be situated.  The majority of sundials that I have seen are not much bigger than a bird table and located in a garden.  There would be no planning permission needed for those.  Other sundials may be wall mounted.  If that is the kind you have in mind, then planning permission may be needed if you live in a listed building or live in a conservation area.
