I have a complete, old, broken exhaust from a Clio (it has been replaced with a new one) Is it worth anything to a scrap metal dealer? if so, how much? Thank you

I wouldn't imagine it's worth a deal, unless it's got a catalytic converter and even then I scrapman wouldn't offer much.I guy who drinks in the same pub as me reckons the bottoms dropped right out of the market for mixed scrap
Question Author
Thanks. No, it hasn't got a catalytic converter. (The replacement plus the labour cost £60 plus VAT)
scrap steel is worth £200 a tonne ,20p a Kg, so your exhaust will be worth £1 max. Not enough to pay the cost of taking it to the scrap yard.
Put it in the Blue Bin Marijin & keep doing the lotto. x
It's probably more rust than metal
Question Author
Actually, I had taken it to the tip this morning, and put it in the recycled metal bin. It was my son's, and he told me after I'd done it, that he could've got some money for it, so I just wanted to make sure I hadn't done something wrong. Thank you all for the reassurance.
You did the right thing, Marijn. You would probably need a skip full to make a few quid.
Question Author
Thanks. I feel better.
You can't just take scrap metal into a scrapyard now and get cash, you have to give bank details and get money paid into an account because of all the metal thefts lately, but you probably would've spend more on fuel taking it there than you would've got for its scrap value.

Quite right methyl, but during the day there's still the old fashioned tinker in his transit truck ringing his bell who'd take it

Thanks all.
