I know that there are certain requirements eg boarding the loft, having lighting, and various safety aspects as regards access but are there any potential problems?

Our boiler's in the loft. My biggest problem with it is the time it takes for hot water to reach ground floor taps. I always feel cheated when I turn the tap off knowing that the pipe is full of water that I've paid to heat.
Other than that it's fine.

Thanks for the replies. Douglas - that is interesting. I find I wait ages for the hot water to reach the upstairs shower (boiler is downstairs) so maybe that is the same problem but in reverse.
See this post of mine for a cautionary tale:-
