I am frustrated trying to stick down the edges of the paper that does stick,I've re-thickened the paste and fed it under the edges but it still comes unstuck by slightly curling. Any one have any answers please.

You can buy a border and overlap paste(Mangers or Solvite) which sticks really well and I have a small roller for the edges which also helps. Depends how much DIY you do as to whether you wish to buy these, but they are not overly expensive.

Pres the edges with a slightly damp cloth.
Or you can paste the wall as well as the paper directly where you think the edges will finish.
Can you use some kind of glue stick to sort them afterwards ?

Maybe you are getting the wallpaper to damp ? I'm trying to think of reasons it might curl. given a decent wallpaper and a decent wallpaper paste it ought not occur.

Or there is always your collection of six inch nails.
have you tried a seam roller this will help flatten the paper.

As OG says .. If the paste is the right consistency it should do the job really. Is it a decent paste vignon? I usually use a slightly damp cloth to press as I work down. You can buy a roller though as Dave says.
Oneof the best methods for assuring straight, well glued edging in wallpaper application is the application of sizing first. In addition to making the wall slippery so the pre-moistened, pre-pasted paper can be moved around more easily.

One site also advises : "...Sizing also helps the wallpaper grip the wall better, and make it easier to peel off wallpaper later should you decide to remove it..." Sizing is applied like paint, using a paint roller and, at least here in the U.S. is fairly inexpensive. The sizing may even be allowed to dry before installation of the papaer...

Have you cross lined the wall?
