I'm spending a rainy day knocking tiles off a kitchen wall with the intention of re-plastering and papering.
A tile I've just knocked off has exposed an oblong of formica set back slightly. It's the same size as a double plug socket and about a foot higher and to the right of an existing socket.

I'm thinking a socket has been moved but when I've had this done in the past a metal plate has been put over the redundant socket.......but is this method acceptable?
Or am I right in suspecting this could be a rough diy job.....and may not be safe?

So....an electrician in do you think?

Hey,apart from Talbot, what are you going to use that drill on?
Erm...'I doubt there is anything behind the formica and believe you will be wasting your money.'

Ring any bells?

Ah....in fairness Talbot first answered before I had fully investigated and found the channel....but you're right, Zacs....

When I gave you more information, Talbot....you could have just said....Ahh....different story now......be safe.....don't take chances.....☺

I was cautious and safe....I'm glad I was.....I can relax now.....x
Question Author
Oooo....crossed posts, Zacs...yes Talbot did tell me that...x
I knew when gness said she was getting an electrician in (so no need for the thread really) that there would be live wires regardless.

I said turn the power off and remove the formica..a very simple job for anyone with even rudimentary diy skills.

Psybs.....I love this drill......will use it anywhere I can....and this is now a wall to hang pictures......x
'I knew when gness said she was getting an electrician in (so no need for the thread really) that there would be live wires regardless.'

So,that's why you said 'I knew when gness said she was getting an electrician in (so no need for the thread really) that there would be live wires regardless.

Sorry cocked up there.

Turn off the power.....remove the formica....then what, Talbot?
Then you knew if you needed an electician.

Talbot. I'd re read all your posts if I were you. Your making yourself look a bit daft.
Question Author
Why have you cocked up, Zacs?.....You said be safe.....Talbot urged me on to possible electrocution...... ;-)

Anyway.....I put up the thread in all good faith....things moved on....I had some help and advice.....and I'm still here to annoy you......♥
22:03 post Gness. Trying to copy too many things at one. On an iPad. After a hard day. Should have gotten an expert in!
Gness my dentist has just gone private. You having a lovely new drill and all I was thinking..... No maybe not. Formica fillings are not my thing.
I haven't said anything daft, zacs. Although I may have exaggerated, the diy skills of Gness.
Question Author
Don't get an expert in, Zacs before you've looked behind something....don't know what ......but look behind it.....☺
Question Author
Togo.....I have some very fine bits for my drill......pop in any time....x

Talbot...unless you know something I don't, darling....you have no way of knowing the extent of my diy skills.....;-)

Now...enough is enough.....you're doing this deliberately and I'm not playing any more.....I have to make coffee for the spark.....♥
Suggesting Gness is lying to cover up the fact that you were wrong is a bit daft. No?
Good grief, he's still there! Is he in the shed?
Question Author
Zacs....I always say thank you....and I like to give an update if I've been helped or advised on here....

I was chatting to someone earlier about the electrics and I said I would post the update....knowing that whatever I said Talbot would accuse me of lying....

So....thanks, Zacs....but best let him sleep now or we'll be here all night and I have lovely walls to gaze at........x
