We have a sudden infestation of the above. They are all over the patio and lawn but I can't locate where they are coming from. Any bright ideas to get rid of them would be welcome. Would hosing it down help? Was hoping to have a party in the garden tomorrow.

Got 'em here too MT.. we get them every year... usually, here the flying ants go with in 24 hours.. the non-flying ones.. well we just leave them alone.. they don't bother us... not good if your having a 'do' tomorrow though.. sorry I cant be of more help ! .. Mrs C x

Thanks Mrs C, the ants I can deal with, it was the flying ones that bother me! Hopefully they will do as you say and disappear overnight. Don't fancy try to eat with them around!
I`ve got them too. They have just appeared today. I scattered a bit of ant killer powder on the patio and they have all flown off.
It tends to happen every where on the same day in July, they should mostly have gone by tomorrow.

Thanks 237SJ and Prudie - that's reassuring fingers crossed they will vanish overnight.
Yes, Margo - I agree with the other comments - They vanish as quickly as they appear, you'll be fine for your garden party tomorrow - Enjoy! :-)

Thanks very much Peaspeculiars. I shall worry no more, just get the prosecco on ice and hopefully have a good time x
BThe birds will eat them. Leave it to the wildlife.
They all fly up high to mate with a queen. Then they die.
Lots of them here in Brixton last 2 days
