I am near London and although a bit cold I really don't want to turn the heating on yet. I was just interested to see if anyone else has succumb yet!

I'd be highly sceptical of that flowerpot thingy. No matter what you do to capture the heat and radiate it, it's still only a couple of candlepower worth. May take the chill off a greenhouse, maybe. But just because it's hot to touch, it still isn't going to be able to emit the heat energy of a 1kW (or more) fire to heat the room properly.

I keep my heating on all the time and control it with the thermostat, I normally have it at 16 or 17 degrees during the summer months - I've got it set at 19 degrees at the moment and it's lovely and comfortable.

I know it's more efficient to switch your heating on and off as you need it, but I can't be bothered with all that - I keep the hot water on all the time and just use the thermostat to adjust the heating it as required.
