I've got an external light (floodlight type) with a PIR sensor and a daylight sensor, so the light comes on when it detects motion, but only when it's dark.

Nothing has been tampered with and just recently the light has started playing up:
When it's dark and I go outside, the light comes on as it detects motion, then after a set time it switches off. However, when I try it again, it won't come on no matter how any times I try ... and it remains like that until the next day .... I go outside when it's dark, the light comes on, then goes off .... but I can't get it to come back on 'til the next evening .....

Anybody any idea what the freakin' 'ell is going on please ??

Ha ha .... I was hoping for a bit more detail lol :P
Try disconnecting the power to the PIR, leaving it disconnected a few minutes, then reconnect.
That may reset the logic of the circuit.

I've tried that before, but I'll switch it off now and leave it off for a few minutes before switching it back on .... and we shall see what happens when it's dark tonight ....
Yes, the logic may well reset. If not, just replace it. PIRs do begin to do strange things when they're on the way out.

The results are in ..... my light is officially goosed.

I switched it off at the mains this morning, then left it a good 5 minutes before switching it back on.
I went out to it tonight and the light came on, waited for it to go off, gave it a few minutes before going back outside and it won't come back on.

I tried switching it off and back on but it won't come back on at all .... but I just know it'll come back on tomorrow when it goes dark again.

Oh well ..... a new light it is then :(
