Hi,
the bathroom light/fan has gone kaput. one of those where the fan runs on for a period of time after the light is switched off. The existing fan/light has a pos and neg that feeds it, and a switched live, the electrician has used a three core flexible cable and put a brown sleeve over the earth wire and used that as the switch wire, and in the diagram for that fan it does not show an earth terminal, BUT, the replacement, a DX200T shows an earth terminal and states that this device must be earthed. Question is, does this need an earth as it is in the ceiling?
as for using the earth wire which is green and yellow as a live by sleeving it seems dodgy, but in the 16th edition its a definite no, but not mentioned in the 17th edition.??
Thanks for the answers. i may be able to pick up an earth from one of the sunken lights, i assume they have been wired in twin and earth, so i will have a look. the installation was done from new when the building was erected, about 10 years ago, but the existing fan did not need an earth.
