I have a small area of flower bed about 1.5 meters square that I want to apply grass seed to as the flowerbed is too large. I have cleared the area,so it's all ready to seed. Since then unfortunately, some cat keeps digging a hole in that area and using it as a toilet.

Is there something I can put down that will stop this? Any hints or tips greatly appreciated!

what about pinning that fine green plastic gardening mesh over the area until the grass has had a chance to grow properly.  My next door neighbour did this to stop the birds eating the grass seed, I dont see why it wouldnt work with your trespassaing cat
cats need to sit down to do their business, so if you put some small sticks all over the area, sticking up, they will give up and go elsewhere.
You can also try planting marigolds.  Cats don't like the smell.
Or sprinkle those "Get off my garden"crystals round the area. You can get them in Wikinsons or any garden centre..hardware shop. You have to reapply them if it rains but I have found they work a treat.
Kitty's don't like lemon juice either, could try a water/juice spray, again respray after rain. X
My husband swears by an old trick.  A piece of rope or hosepipe sort of curved around like a snake.  Apparently that's what cats think it is and they avoid the area like the plague.  Worked very well on my son's newly seeded lawn!  Worth a try.
Cover the area in cayenne pepper.
