Sale and resale of house - reasons?

Last year, I put an offer in on a house and was disappointed when I lost out to a much higher bidder (this is in Scotland where the system is sealed bids at closing dates).  I recently checked to see how much the house went for and was surprised that it was resold 2 months after the initial purchase for 20000 less.  I had the house surveyed before bidding and nothing major was highlighted so I am assuming it was not due to a structural problem.  So, what othre reasons could there be for this situation?

It shouldn't bother me but I'm just curious (especially as my bid was higher than the resale price!)

Maybe the other bidder couldn't come up with the finances needed and pulled out?
