I need to take out a sash window to get a sofa through, is this possible - any chippies out there?

I'm no builder but that sound's like a messy job - I recently moved house and had a similar problem but instead of dismantling the window, I did the sofa - I unpicked it at the seams on both sides and got access to the bolts that held the ends on, unscrewing them allowed me to fold the ends around to make a slimmer package - I then reassembled it and stitched up the sides with a mattress needle. I have to say I know there were bolts there as I could feel them through the sides and the sofa was a old one and therefore worth the risk - worth looking though.

I've taken out a sash window to mend the cord - you have to lever out the three pieces of wood which hold the moving window frame in place. The wood is only held in place be small nails and should be easy to lever. Now that you can get to the frame you can swing it inwards and detach the cord from each side. If you want to remove the top window as well you have to remove the long strip of wood either side of the sash frame that holds the the two windows apart. This should, once again, just lever (or pull) out. The top window cords can be removed as you did with the lower ones. It sounds complicated, but it isn't really. They are very simple things. I've always found a sledgehammer and brute force very handy in situations like this: you get the benefit of a 'natural'-looking 3-D wall display as well -- veery fashionable this year. Not to mention an alternative fire exit.
