If you needed a cleaner for an hour a week - because you are ill (not for me) how much would you pay.

I would pay £10 an hour - friend whom I met yesterday was furious to say she would only pay £7.50 an hour - to me it wouldn't be worthwhile for the cleaner - what is your opinion.

I can't imagine what a cleaner could realistically achieve in just one hour.

I no longer have a cleaner but when I did she was paid £15 an hour.

£7.50 is risible.

Hasn't the new hourly rate just gone up to £7.20 ? £10 is very generous jj ...
I pay £15 p.h. and it's money well spent.
Well, what do I know then .....

£15 is very reasonable and also very fair. TBH - does depend on the state of the house!!!!!
I'd love to pay less than £10
Depends on the size of the property, Eccles. If I want more done I pay her pro rata. Remember that those employed by agencies will only get a cut of the hourly rate.
At least £10..
Thank you for patronising me Jackdaw33, much appreciated.
I'd look at it from the cleaner's side as well - you've got to remember they've got to get to and from the house in question .... all for just an hour's work.
I'd pay extra just to allow for the travelling involved :)
I have one every 2 weeks for 2 hours and I pay her £20.

This includes her too clean the windows, inside & out (bungalow) change bed duvet, hang out any washing, and wash up plates etc.
I had no intention of patronising. I was just pointing out that my place is so tiny it can easily be done in an hour.

trt - you are fairly getting value for money - £10 an hour for all that.

I have a number of friends who have cleaners or their children have (due to busy lifestyles) and their cleaners seem to be Polish.

Is their nationality relevant?

it would make a difference if they were supplying their own materials or not. £12 if they were, £10 if they werent
£10 seems to be the minimum going rate. Some cleaners wouldn't be interested in an hour a week. It also depends whose providing the cleaning materials, whether they're local & the type of cleaning required. There's also a lot of truth in the saying 'you get what you pay for'
Question Author
yes Eccles as I find Polish people great workers
The normal rate is £10-£15 per hour but they don't tend to want to do less than 2 hours a time which is understandable as they have to travel to and from your home.
£10 seems about right to me JJ.....I had a cleaner about 20 years ago, and I was paying her £7 an hour back then.
