how do u take a cutting from a conifer to grow a new one

With great difficulty, generally, conifers do not re-root easily; though some are better than others, yew and juniper for instance. Try several very young shoots, cut off cleanly about 2-3 inches long,  use very good compost, a rooting hormone powder and keep moist and warm...and keep praying. What sort of conifer are you talking about? (not a giant sequoia, I trust!)
