I have a small garden and a cat has recently started to use it as a toilet.

So far I have tried...
- putting twigs down
- tethering plastic bags
- curry powder
- bought cat repellent
- wire mesh on the high walls
- wd40 on the walls
- an ornamental cat on the wall.
- I have a motion detecting security light

Nothing has worked. I have never seen the cat, only its business.

Any proven remedies I could try?

Citrus - cats hate citrus, pop lemons cut in half and other citrus fruits around the garden.
do you have foxes it could be their poo x
Different cats react differently to whatever you try. Nothing is really guaranteed. If it is in the back garden you can get things that squirt water at them, not that I've ever tried. I have had limited success with putting down camphor, but it needs continual replacement.

(If you can get a tracking camera up maybe you can identify the cat and where it goes home; and post the presents back to it's owner. I'm sure they must be missing them having gone to all the trouble of creating a cat toilet in their own garden.)

We do have foxes locally, but the wall is about 6 feet high, so I doubt it is a fox.

Thanks for the citrus hint, I will try that next.

I covered all the soil areas, and the pesky *** started to poo in pots.

I bought 4 of those black plastic looking cats with scary glass eyes, ok for a couple of weeks, then back to cat crap.

My neighbour puts out plastic water bottles with water in them, he swears by them, but not tried.
2 x Pestbye Garden Ultra Sonic Cat Fox Pest Repeller Scarer Deterrent Repellent - ebay or similar - about £25

These work for us - have 2 in front garden and 2 in back. We used to have 2 cats that regularly cr????d in our gardens but they seem to go elsewhere now
I had an ultrasonic cat repellent which did work after trying other things that didn't work.http://search2.virginmedia.com/index?channel=search&vml=customer&vmt=unknown&f=0&as_qdr=&q=cat+repellent+noise&submit-frmGoogleWeb=Web+Search
Fishing catapult(with large, cup-like pouch) and foam/plastic practice balls that golfers use.
foxes can get over 6-foot walls (especially when I'm chasing them away) and they do their business anywhere at all, particularly in the middle of the lawn in my case; they're not neat like cats. If it's a fox, human male urine round the boundary is said to be a deterrent.

Jno,
There does not seem to be any attempt to bury the mess. I assumed it was just a useless cat.

I have purchased an ultra sonic scarer as recommended by roslyn251254.
might be a fox, then; they're terribly unhygienic, which is why I dislike them. (I don't know how you let kids play in a garden which is also a fox loo.)
Are you suggesting that gromit, er, sprays his own territory, jno?
if necessary, sveyk. But I'm not in a position to say if it works.
Not all cats bury their waste, although I used to think so, it seems increasing numbers don't - so the only way to say a fox is involved is to see or photograph one in the act (or have an analysis of the stuff carried out). Unfortunately, cat owners are reluctant to acknowledge the problem because they don't suffer it while their animals dump on the neighbours. There is a very effective fitting available which goes onto a garden hose and actually targets/tracks the cat as it moves about the garden. I saw something about this not long ago, sold on Amazon amongst other places, originates in the USA if I remember correctly. Extremely amusing video somewhere online - scares the bejeezus out of the critters (much like placing a cucumber near them when not looking - another set of very funny videos) and they quickly learn to avoid the place. In fact, I think some of this may have cropped up on AB not long ago.
cat poo smells bad but fox poo smells like the worst possible smell in the world....you can tell the difference that way if you dare.......
This stuff always seems to get good reviews.
