strange "fairy" bird in my garden

Today I have found a strange bird in my garden. I have never seen it before- and the other birds looked as if they hadn't ethier, they were all gathered around it. It is roughly the same size and shape of a Magpie, but its behavior is like that of a pigeon. It somehow looks parrot-like, but paler. It has a pale green body with parts of pale blue. Its tail is long like a Magpie's and is very pale blue. In flight the tails is spread out, making it appear fairy-like. It is very strange and if you know waht it could be can u tell me plz. Im not sure but I fink it might have escaped from someone.

Hi curragh, from your decription it might be a rosella, a small parrot type bird.  It is similar in size and some of the colours. If it is I can only assume it has escaped like you suggest in yoour question.   Of course ot might not be that at all. !!!   Let us know if you do manage to identify it.

I bet the birds in your garden were ecstatic curragh, having something so exotic looking to peer at...must have made their day!

Did you notice the shape of the bill as this would help enormously. Was it straight or rounded? Not to worry if you didn't as I think you're right, it does sound like an escapee from a collection.  The only other possibilities   I can think of is  Jay or  Ring-Necked Parakeet. The shape is about right but  the colours are a bit 'iffy'.

Hi curragh- where do you live? What about the Azure winged magpie- lives in more southern parts of europe but accidentals crop up now and again. It is described as flying with tail spead 'fairy like'

i live near london and im sure it wasn't a jay, the beak was staight and short
