Replacing Row Of Tiles

I am hoping to put a shower cubicle in the bathroom, but will need to take 6 large tiles out around bottom of floor to install shower tray. The plumber assures me that this can be done, but I am worried it is going to give me uneven tiles above the tray. I am using some new tiles that I had left from the original installation. Has anyone had this done, was it successful? Thanks.

Is it not possible to leave the tiles in-situ and butt the shower-tray up to them?
That would preserve the look you currently have......which may be difficult to replicate if you do remove the tiles.

Surely if you have identical tiles from the original fitting, there should be no problem for an experienced person to cut them to look perfect.

The shower tray needs to be fitted so that any subsequent tiles or panel is lipped over it. If you just butt the tray up to the existing tiles it will leak and cause more trouble than knocking off a few tiles and then replacing them with a row of cut down replacements. Just make sure that when the replaced tiles are grouted, that the original tiles in the near vicinity are grouted up as well or you will have a noticeable colour change in the finished grouting.

Tiles are stuck to the wall. If the upper row of tiles are not already uneven, why would they become so on removing the row beneath them ?

Thanks for your comments, the tiles on the wall were only done last year,so hopefully the grouting will not look too different. I was concerned that there might be glue left on the wall where the tiles were taken off which might make it uneven if it could not be taken off easily, but sounds as though everything should be okay.

Any experienced tiler, providing the tray is fitted properly, would have no trouble in doing this.

Just make sure the plumber is aware of the intended finish, and fits the tray accordingly
