Bliss Yesterday....

....was a 2.5 hour walk around Stamford followed by a late lunch.
The walk was a Treasure Trail....I may have mentioned these before...or not.
You buy or download the map of your choice from Treasure Trails....there is a little story about a murderer.....or buried treasure...or completing a Secret Agent mission......and you follow the clues til you have solved the mystery.
It's such a fun way to discover hidden places and facts about a new town/city/area......or even where you live.......and if a clue on a pub is now hidden because the landlord's petunias have grown over it you have to go inside to tell him........and have a drink....;-)
Walks vary in time but are...as far as possible....wheelchair and pushchair friendly.
I believe there are now cycling and driving trails....have only done the walking ones myself.....next on my list is Foxton Locks.
With school holidays ahead it'd be a great day out for kids......have a look at the Treasure Trail site.....it really is fun.......x

It is lovely, Barmaid......I visit quite often but this took me to places I'd not seen.
The spire replacing the Eleanor Cross and the seats around it are so interesting......we chatted to a man who'd lived there for eighteen years and didn't know about the history of the spire and the seats.....x

Well if that's the one I'm thinking of, then it is a complete hole. In 1969-70 I was based at RAF North Luffenham, about six miles away. Stamford was the pits. No decent shops, no nightlife, no decent cinemas or pubs. We avoided it like the plague. Its only redeeming feature was the train to Peterborough or the A1 so you could escape.
Well it must have changed suddenly, Jack....been lovely as long as I have known it....
Interesting shops, great places to eat and the entertainment is good.
May be, Barmaid.....didn't get time to see the only remaining rose from it....next time perhaps.
We have one of the few remaining crosses nearby in Geddington.....x
