Settings within any program (but especially, it seems, email clients) can become corrupted. That can be due to anything from a power surge on your mains supply to radiation from solar flares.

The easiest solution to such problems is simply to delete the account from Windows Live Mail and then create it again. (Deleting the account only clears your current settings; you won't lose any existing emails).

Have you tried a system restore Jordy to a date before the problem started?
Could be system registry or recognition issues. I will have a look around.
