The thermometer next to my desk as I type this tells me that it's currently 11C and I've no intention of turning the heating up based upon that. (I was brought up in a home where 50F = 10C was regarded as the warmest we could afford to pay for and I taught for many years in a classroom where such temperatures were the norm throughout the winter months).
Tilly:
It's actually quite a long time since I had much 'fur' on top!
The cats do help to keep me warm, especially when Biscuit snuggles up under the duvet with me (or, as he sees it, when he graciously allows me to join him under his duvet, where he spends much of his time anyway!)
I have just given in to temptation though, and turned the heating up a bit. The new cat, who moved in a week ago, seemed to be expecting me to do so!
My last electricity bill showed that I was £430 in credit, so I can probably afford a little bit of heating now and then anyway ;-)

I'm not sure whether he'll be staying or not, Tilly. I suddenly found that I'd got an extra cat in my house about a week ago, demanding food and fuss, and he's not left since.
He's a beautiful silver-grey intact male, with a white chest and white socks. I think that he's adorable but my own four cats aren't quite so sure about that! He's obviously been well cared for and seems to be an indoor cat, preferring to use a litter tray than to go outdoors.
I've looked on all of the local noticeboards, lamp-posts, etc for 'Missing Cat' posters but found nothing. I've also asked the post lady if she's seen any posters or knows where he comes from, but she couldn't help. I've asked the local vets if they've had a missing cat reported but they know nothing about him. I've taken him down there and had him scanned for a microchip but he's not got one. This afternoon I did a leaflet drop around the 70 houses nearest to me but nobody has phoned to claim him. Over the next few days I'll put up some posters and probably deliver some more leaflets. I might also let Cats Protection know that I've got him.
I'm sure that somebody must be missing him but if I can't find out where he belongs he'll just have to stay!
