ideal home!

I was just thinking about where I would live if I had the choice. It would be a massive detatched Victorian house- one of those ones that is now flats- with about 5 floors, a cellar and lots of weird little rooms and staircases.

My friend lived in a house like this when we were 10, and she would take me to a part of the house and I would have to find my way back...! (It was more fun than it sounds!!) A house like that would now cost millions.

What sort of house would you live in if you could choose??!

Well Scarlett I have to say you have just described my ideal house! I had a dream about a house like this once and to this day I can remember everything about the drean but especially the feelings I had in it, total and utter contentment, a great feeling.
If not this kind then I would have an old cottage, again with funny little stairways and odd rooms, and an attic (to use as a library) with a slightly scruffy garden (but well loved) and patio type doors in the bedroom leading out to my wild, natural back garden.
Great question!
My sons friend lives in one of these houses, though it's semi detached. It is HUGH. It had been converted into flats and they are gradually restoring it. The rooms they've done so far are fantastic, though it's a long term project so could take them a few more years yet.
I think I'd like to live in one of these houses, or a nice Georgian double fronted house. It would have to have lots of rooms. I live in a three bed terrace and dream of having more space.

Well mycatis I do live in an old cottage like you describe and while it is nice and I'd not change it for the world - you do have to be a bit handy about the place they do need quite a bit of upkeep.

But if we're playing fantasy houses I'll have a Jacobean manor house with original floorboards blackened with age and diamond point leaded light windows offerring views onto a manacured lawn and herbaceous border in the last throws of it's summer glory.

That reminds me I must check my lottery numbers
